In a 100g serving of hemp seeds, there is .75 grams of stearidonic acid. Similar to ALA, SDA is a long chain omega 3 fatty acid that is a precursor to longer chains.Here are a few benefits:
- 5%-21% of ALA converts to EPA while 1%-9% to DHA. SDA has a superior ability to convert to EPA, which is around 17%-41%
- Less susceptable to oxidation and becoming rancid than EPA
- Soy and canola companies are modifying their products to begin producing SDA
- Precursor to EPA and DHA, ALA must convert to SDA before it can produce EPA and DHA.
